New York University, which recently revealed plans for extensive expansion into Brooklyn, Manhattan’s East Side, and Governors Island, now has its sights set on ground zero. The Times reports that the university recently wrote a letter to the Port Authority and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation asking “whether there is some role that the university can play to help revitalize and diversify” the former site of the World Trade Center. Those opposed to NYU’s plans to expand in Greenwich Village who were hoping that ground zero expansion would mean less growth in the Village will be disappointed to learn that the university said today it will need both sites, the space in the Village to accommodate faculty housing.
