Former Vice-President Al Gore and his estranged wife, Tipper Gore, will not be attending Chelsea Clinton’s upcoming wedding, a spokesperson for the family confirmed. The rep added, “They both wish Chelsea well, believe she is a wonderful young woman, and they share in the family’s excitement.”
So, were they invited in the first place? When asked if the former couple was invited, the Gore rep had “no comment.” The sleuths over at the News’s Gatecrasher column point out that in a December 2009 interview with the Daily Beast, Al Gore said he was “looking forward to Chelsea’s wedding, a happy occasion.” Of course, that was before he was knee-deep in a high-profile separation, coupled with a police investigation into alleged “unwanted sexual contact” with a masseuse who claims Gore’s a “sick man!” But just like regular immature exes, Al and Tipper probably just didn’t even want to be in the same room as one another, and the couple, perhaps, didn’t want to deflect any attention away from the bride by merely showing up.
In other updates on the Most Important Wedding in the World, the affair, to be held on July 31, will allegedly take place at Astor Courts, a former Beaux-Arts sporting pavilion modeled after Versailles, sitting on 50 acres outside Rhinebeck, New York. The estate is owned by Kathleen Hammer, a former producer for Oxygen who donated to Hillary Clinton’s Presidential and Senatorial campaigns. Or maybe it won’t be held there: According to the News, “The Clintons have reportedly intentionally leaked some misinformation about the wedding to throw off the press.” They’re playing mind games with us now, and we like it.
