Technology-Dependant Yuppies Practically Bankrupting LIRR

Time was, people who evaded paying the fare on trains were just bums. Now, they’re “debit- and credit-card-reliant young people” who, having spent their last twenties on lobster rolls in the Hamptons, have nothing to offer conductors except for a handful of plastic cards and a promise to pay later. Of course, that never works out, because the LIRR then bills them via the paper mail, and who checks that? If only they’d just develop the technology that takes payment by scanning our eyeballs, already. [WSJ]
