BP engineers are preparing to pump mud and cement into the oil well early this week, “optimistic” that this “static kill” effort could shutter the well for good, or “get this thing done,” as Thad Allen put it. And if it doesn’t solve everything, it could “at least offer critical clues about any unknown leaks that still have to be plugged.” [NYT]
