City’s Unemployment Rate Drops For Sixth Straight Month

Even though the census’ end meant the loss of thousands of jobs, New York City’s unemployment rate managed to drop to 9.5 percent in June, the sixth straight month of decline, the State Labor Department said. The city added 8,300 jobs in the private sector in June, a pretty notable increase, with the biggest pick-ups in construction and leisure and hospitality. And more good news: New York State’s overall unemployment rate also fell over the past month, reaching a 14-month low of 8.2 percent. [NYT]
