The imam with ties to the suicide-bomb plot against the New York City subway system left the U.S. Monday on court orders after he admitted to lying to the FBI. Ahmad Wais Afzali and his wife Fatima left on a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight for Mecca, according to their lawyer, who said Afzali “isn’t sure what he’s going to do there.” His lawyer said that Afzali — who pleaded guilty on April 15 in the federal case — “genuinely loves this country very much” and that his final words on U.S. soil were “God bless America.” [AP]
