The Daily Caller, the Tucker Carlson–run conservative news site familiar to many for running the e-mails that got Dave Weigel fired, has made an ingenious move guaranteed to get itself a lot of attention in the coming days buying KeithOlbermann.com, with plans to build it into “the one-stop online shop for Keith Olbermann commentary.” They’ve already guaranteed themselves plenty of coverage online, and, we don’t hesitate to predict, on Keith Olbermann’s cable show.
That’s not to say that Olbermann is too upset about it — and why should he be, confident as he is that the domain-name purchase won’t stand up to legal scrutiny. “I hope whoever sold it to them got cash,” he quipped today, and tweeted, “[T]he law’s pretty clear on this, so, nice waste of money, Tuckie,” as well as “[I]t’s a copyright case and remarkably settled law.” But is it? MSNBC declined to tell us whether they were currently looking into legal remedies. But either way, for guys like Tucker Carlson and Keith Olbermann, a little conflict is never really a bad thing.
