Shirley Sherrod Is Going to Force President Obama Into This Mess

Not only did Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack apologize profusely to Shirley Sherrod yesterday, he even offered her a brand-new job, “something in civil rights with the Office of Outreach”! How exciting! Sherrod, who was thrown under the bus for an out-of-context clip posted on Andrew Breitbart’s website without even being allowed to tell her side of the story, was practically giddy on Today this morning:

I would not want to be that individual that the [Agriculture] Department and everyone is looking to to solve the issue of racism in USDA. … They talked about the Office of Outreach, and dealing with discrimination within the agency. … I haven’t seen the offer: The Secretary said he would e-mail it to me — I have not seen it yet. So before I say “no” totally, I would like to look at that, to weigh it.

Huh … okay, not that excited. Besides actually looking at the job offer — Vilsack seemingly has a lot of trouble making phone calls and sending e-mails — Sherrod says she also wants to speak to one other person, the one person who has been trying the hardest to stay out of this whole thing: President Obama.

As she explained on Today:

Yeah, that sounds nice and all, but have you not heard, Shirley? President Obama wants to get involved in another racial controversy like he wants another giant oil spill.
