President Obama invited Mayor Bloomberg up to Martha’s Vineyard to play golf and talk politics today. Reporters witnessed the pair “huddled inside the clubhouse at the Vineyard Golf Club for about 15 minutes to discuss the economy” before they headed out to play in a foursome that also included Vernon Jordan and White House trip director Marvin Nicholson. It has not yet been reported what they discussed — or how they played — but presumably they avoided the topic of the Park51 project. For one thing, they don’t exactly share the same viewpoint (Bloomberg vehemently defends the project’s right to exist near ground zero, and Obama has questioned the wisdom of its placement). And for another: God, even those two must be tired of this whole mess. Wouldn’t it be much more fun to talk about how the economy is floundering?
