Democratic Senator Blocks Obama Cabinet Nominee Over Oil Drilling

The week might be coming to a close, with just enough time for Senate Democrats to engage in one more display of political disobedience.. This time, it’s Mary Landrieu, the senator from Louisiana, who has now decided to block the nomination of Jack Lew to run the Office of Management and Budget. (Senators can wield a “hold” and put a stop on any nominee.)

She won’t lift the hold, she wrote in a letter, “until I am convinced that the president and his administration understand the detrimental impacts that the actual and de facto moratoria continue to have on the Gulf Coast.” In other words, no oil drilling, no budget.
