Leading up to yesterday’s primary, the Empire State Pride Agenda, the Human Rights Campaign’s Campaign for New York Marriage, and other gay groups targeted two of the eight Democratic state senators who voted against gay marriage last year. They endorsed and financially supported Lynn Nunes in Queens (who ran against incumbent Shirley Huntley) and Tim Kennedy in Buffalo (who ran against 28-year incumbent Bill Stachowski). Nunes lost his primary race, but Stachowski — who was also aggressively targeted by the equal-rights group Fight Back New York — was defeated by Kennedy. [Advocate]
