Back in May, New York’s Michael Idov previewed the arrival of Snob, a magazine slash social network for upscale Russians living in the United States. A ten-times-a-year publication already in Russia, it’s been brought overseas by Nets owner and billionaire Mikhail Prokorov. The title isn’t meant to compete with other Russian-language publications here, but rather with our own native Vanity Fairs and Esquires. According to the Journal, “the name of the magazine does not mean to Russians what it means to Americans. For readers, the title Snob is ‘obviously ironic’ … and in fact the title is an acronym of the Russian words for accomplished, independent, educated and thriving.” It arrives in New York this week, so get ready.
