New Yorkers Outraged Over New Street Signs

New Yorkers are simply incensed about a requirement by the federal government that all current street signs be replaced by 2018 with ones in the more reflective, lowercase-letter-using Clearview font, which has been proven to reduce accidents by being easier to read. Stop shoving your typographical mandates down our throats, Obama! Right?

Well, no. This directive was established in 2003, but the Department of Transportation gave everyone fifteen years to get it done. Nevertheless, switching all of the city’s 250,900 street signs will cost $27.6 million. Is that not ridiculous, people stopped on the street by the Daily News?

That’s ridiculous,” said James Sullivan, 34, a bike messenger from Queens. “They might as well just burn the damn money.”

Yeah! That would be so much better than using it on new street signs that improve road safety. Another complaint:

Agreed again. Since when was it considered okay to use our tax dollars to improve the roads that we all use? Also:

And if retired Manhattan resident Paul Kelly isn’t driving anymore, what’s the point? We should just dismantle the entire traffic system, since Paul Kelly doesn’t need it anymore. We’d save millions. But instead the city is wasting all this money and effort!

Oh. Still, all that extra effort! The city will really have to bust its ass.

Oh.
