rally to restore sanity

Obama ‘Amused’ by Jon Stewart’s D.C. Rally

During a speech in Arlington, Virginia, on Wednesday, the president expressed his amusement about Jon Stewart’s upcoming Rally to Restore Sanity. And while he may have fallen just short of endorsing the rally, he seemed to be pretty down with it. (Obama’s really proving his hipness this week, huh?)

First, the president criticized the “controversial” cable-news commentators out there. He didn’t name any names, though of course he didn’t have to.

These cable shows, these talk show hosts, a lot of them have figured out, ‘The more controversial I can be … if I’m going out there, and I’m calling Obama this name or that name, saying he wasn’t born in this country — that will get me attention,’” he said, before adding, “There are folks on the left who do the same thing.”

He then discussed the “challenge” of “creating a space” for people who acknowledge “we’re going to have some differences because some of these issues are hard” — at which point he mentioned Stewart’s rally, adorably fumbling the name.

I was amused - Jon Stewart, the host of The Daily Show, apparently he’s going to host a rally called something like ‘Americans in Favor of a Return to Sanity.’”

Pretty awesome.
