“Boy Falls Asleep in Congress” is the ultimate “Dog Bites Man” story. Has a child ever endured a session of Congress without falling asleep? And yet the newest video of a child falling asleep during a floor speech by Texas Republican Ted Poe (to a nearly empty chamber) is more noteworthy than others. For one, it takes a special level of sleepiness to doze off during a speech on domestic violence punctuated with lines like “he poured the gasoline over her head, and he set her on fire.” For another, the kid was Poe’s grandson. But we don’t blame him. It’s Congress.
