Lisa Murkowski to Actually Become Senator Again

A federal judge in Alaska has cleared the path for Senator Lisa Murkowski to be sworn in for a second term along with the rest of the 112th Congress on January 5. Murkowski lost the Republican primary to Joe Miller and ran as a write-in candidate, winning by more than 10,000 votes, but Miller has delayed certification by arguing that Murkowski’s write-in votes were spelled incorrectly. The Alaska Supreme Court ruled against him last week, and on Tuesday evening a federal judge concurred that Miller’s argument is silly, and dismissed the case. The state will officially certify the race on Thursday. [NYT, Politico]
