Local ABC Weather Woman Pretended to Be Almost Raped

Weather forecasters have earned a not entirely fair reputation as an untrustworthy bunch. Sure, their predictions are usually right, but we only remember the times when it rains and they said it would be sunny. We’re kind of jerks like that. So what the forecaster community definitely doesn’t need are high-profile examples of weatherpeople being really dishonest, like the news today that ABC’s Heidi Jones made up a story about being nearly raped.

In late November, Jones told police that a Hispanic man (it’s always the Hispanic men who fake rape, isn’t it?) tried to rape her while she was jogging in Central Park two months earlier. She claimed that she’d only just reported the incident because the man had recently turned up again and threatened her. But police noticed inconsistencies in her story and eventually got Jones to admit that she had lied about the whole thing “in a plea for sympathy to counter some unknown setback that she was experiencing in her personal life,” according to the Post’s pun-saturated story. Which is pretty sad, and a reminder that even the most chipper people on the planet have problems, too.
