Mayor Bloomberg Thinks New Yorker Cover Portraying Him As a Narcissist Is ‘Cute’

The cover art on the current issue of The New Yorker, sketched by Barry Blitt of this cover fame, portrays Mayor Michael Bloomberg spending Valentine’s Day staring adoringly at his own face in the mirror as, we assume, his girlfriend of a decade cries in another room. Ouch. Or … not ouch? “It was great,” Bloomberg told reporters today. “I thought it was cute looking into the mirror.” Eh? Please explain.

Mr. Bloomberg, not known for a humble demeanor, seemed content to offer his own interpretation of the work.

“I like what I see in the mirror, and I hope everybody here does,” the mayor said. “I get up in the morning, and I work as hard as I can, and my kids have turned out great. I’m a lucky enough guy to have made a lot of money, and I’m giving it all away and making a big difference.”

We’re not sure that “look at how hard Mayor Bloomberg works and how great his kids turned out and how much money he gives to charity” is the message Blitt was going for there.
