Which Way Is Magnetic North?

Magnetic north, the place that isn’t really north but where all those compass needles point, is shifting position at a rate of 40 miles per year. That means a one-degree difference in compass direction every five years, and it’s changing faster and faster. But don’t freak out, say scientists, because it’s just the Earth’s molten-iron core slish-sloshing around as the planet spins. Too bad airports and mariners have to update their equipment to the tune of millions. [Sun Sentinel]
