David Johnson, Infamous Aide to Governor Paterson, Pleads Guilty

David Johnson, once Governor Paterson’s closest aide, has pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment, a misdemeanor. “I got into an argument … it got loud,” Johnson admitted to the judge regarding an incident with his girlfriend, Sherr-una Booker, the cover-up of which derailed Paterson’s term and reelection campaign. “We were both upset and I shoved her with the intent to harm her.” That’s a bit different than Booker’s recollection of that night — she told police he “choked her, stripped her of much of her clothing, [and] smashed her against a mirrored dresser” — but Johnson won’t be spending any time in jail and will have the incident expunged from his record if he stays out of trouble for a year.
