the future is coming

Apple Stores Sold Out of the iPad 2 Within Hours

Apple stores in major U.S. cities sold out of the iPad 2 within hours Friday. By Sunday, Apple’s online store was already showing a delay of three to four weeks for all iPad 2 models. Supplies were also scarce at retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart. In some cases, the lines were almost twice as long as those for the first iPad because the company didn’t allow preorders. Analysts estimate Apple sold in the range of 400,000 to 600,000 iPad 2s in three days, roughly the same amount of the original that sold in a week. So something we weren’t sure we wanted is now near impossible to purchase instantaneously? But more than half a million people already have their grubby hands on it? Before us? That’s it, we’re getting our sleeping bag and … Dammit, Steve Jobs! You almost had us going there.
