A magnitude 6.5 earthquake shook eastern Japan today, off the coast ravaged by an earthquake earlier this month. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Japan has issued a tsunami alert in response. The Japan Meteorological Agency said a tsunami of up to 1.6 feet may wash into the Miyagi Prefecture. The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no wave was expected in Hawaii or on the U.S. West Coast. The quake that shook Japan on March 11 was a magnitude 9.
