Would You Visit This Man’s Brooklyn Outhouse for Cultural Reasons?

Retired fireman Jack Fortmeyer has plans to turn the nineteenth-century outhouse he’s been refurbishing into a Boerum Hill tourist attraction. Once indoor plumbing made outhouses obsolete, residents began to use them for household trash. Fortmeyer plans to place a seat inside, install lighting in the eleven-foot deep pit, then fill it with all the trinkets he’s found, like ivory-handled toothbrushes and discarded bottles. Hopefully that means placing them on the side and not back in the night soil. [Brooklyn Paper]
