At Least Four Dead After String of Tornadoes Hits Oklahoma

A day after deadly tornadoes killed 116 in Missouri, a tornado wound through central Oklahoma on Tuesday evening, killing four and leaving a path of devastation in its wake. More than 60 people were injured — around twenty of those were workers in the town of El Reno, who were drilling a rig when the storms came through. In anticipation of the storm, American Airlines canceled 126 flights out of Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport, and operations were suspended at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City Tuesday night. Oklahoma governor Mary Fallin sent all state employees home at 3 p.m. in anticipation of the storm, with instructions to stay off the road. “I’ve seen many homes that have been destroyed, wiped off their foundations, trucks overturned on the highways,” she said. “Get out of the way and don’t drive into it.” The tornado threat is expected to diminish overnight, though high winds will continue.
