Cholera Outbreak in Haiti Started With the U.N. Peacekeepers

A panel of scientists nominated by the U.N. has determined that the strain of cholera in Haiti that has sickened 286,000, killed 4,870, and is threatening to become endemic, is a “perfect match” for a strain found in Nepal in 2009. This proves, as Haitians have suggested and the U.N. mission in Haiti denied, that the strain came from U.N. peacekeepers. [New Scientist]
