Mr. Cool Tweets From the Top of Mount Everest

Using a Samsung Galaxy S II with expansive 3G coverage, English mountaineer Kenton Cool has become the world’s first man to tweet from the top of Mount Everest. Tweeting from KentonCool, in partnership with Samsung, Mr. Cool (yes, his last name is Cool) sent the groundbreaking tweet this Thursday, when he reached the top of Everest for the ninth time. From the top of the mountain, he also video-chatted with his wife and with the BBC. Cool is actually not the first person to tweet while climbing Everest, but he’s the first one to tweet during the climb’s notorious last lap and from the top, where many able men and women have faltered and died.

This event is sort of mind-blowing, and since we have yet to climb Everest even once, we hate to be nitpicky here, but Cool’s victorious, sponsored tweet from the top is kind of lame: “Everest summit no 9! 1st tweet from the top of the world thanks to a weak 3G signal & the awesome Samsung Galaxy S2 handset!” Really? C’mon. Not, like, “Fuck yeah, I’m tweeting from the top of Everest”? His next few were better: “Talking to my amazing wife on the summit of Everest. Showered and fed after the summit push, now tucked up in bed it’s beginning to sink in … No 9 WOOHOO.” That’s more like it.
