Cyber Attack Strikes International Monetary Fund

Before its former leader was arrested, the International Monetary Fund was hit by “a large and sophisticated cyberattack whose dimensions are still unknown,” according the New York Times. The fund — “a repository of highly confidential information about the fiscal condition of many nations,” the type of place with some secrets — told its staff about the attack on Wednesday. “This was a very major breach,” said one official. It’s currently being investigated. In response, the World Bank has cut its computer link to the IMF. Looking for clues? Earlier this month, the IMF said it had “taken steps to combat a possible cyber attack from Anonymous Operations.” [NYT]
