It seems like Republicans are always more excited about which candidate is waiting on the other, greener (or dare we say, redder) side. Mere weeks after Michele Bachmann entered the race as a spirited alternative to front-runner Mitt Romney, the buzz now is all about a possible Rick Perry run. Lately, the Texas governor has been putting feelers out in Iowa, an early primary (technically caucus) state, calling up seasoned campaign workers there and sounding out the waters. (They seem to be just the right temperature and just the right depth for a well-timed dive, according to Politico.) Simultaneously, Perry has a former Bush campaign finance whiz organizing a late-July meeting for national donors, no doubt hoping to capitalize on the less-than-stellar fund-raising figures released by the current Republican field last week. As for the sentiment in his own state’s capital, seems like everyone (or at least all the Perry confidants that Reuters interviewed) are of one mind: Ricky Perry is going to run.
