On Monday, the World Trade Center’s 9/11 Memorial opened its online box office for ticket reservations. While public access to the memorial won’t begin until September 12 — and the plaza area will be free — 24,000 people purchased reserved free tickets within the first few hours, temporarily shutting down the website. The city still needs a bit more money to complete the memorial, but it looks poised to be a popular spot come September. [NYP]
