Charles Mysak, a former lawyer and currently one of those guys who sells books on the sidewalk, has kept his ‘94 Honda Civic in the same Upper West Side parking spot for more than a decade. It costs him $36 a day, and technically it’s a violation of traffic laws to hog a spot like that. Mysak has $470 in unpaid parking tickets, which might scare off a lesser man, but Mysak has principles. He believes that parking enforcement “is a conspiracy against the laity, going back to, you know, medieval times.” Well, you’ve got to believe in something to keep a streak like his alive.
