Are You Prepared for an Emergency?

Probably more than you think. In honor of August’s East Coast earthquake and Hurricane Irene, New York City has declared September “National Preparedness Month.” For yesterday’s kickoff, officials unveiled Ready New York, a series of public service announcements intended to help New Yorkers plan for a disaster. Additionally, FEMA’s William Fugate encouraged families to create backup communication plans for use in an emergency. (Because everyone knows cell phones aren’t going to work.) His suggestion?
