New York’s John Heilemann was on Charlie Rose Thursday night to discuss the inevitable Ultimate Showdown between Rick Perry and Mitt Romney for the soul of the GOP. Calling Rick Perry the first “credible” candidate to emerge from the tea-party movement, he said: “If the tea party fused with Evangelical movement is now really what the core of the Republican party is … then Rick Perry will win the Republican nomination. And if enough of the vestigial Republican party, the older establishment party, if that remains … Mitt Romney will win the Republican party.”
