New York City Buildings Doing Their Part to Combat the Avian Menace

According to the New York City Audubon, 90,000 birds die as a result of crashing into our glass-walled buildings each year. Prominent collision sites include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the World Financial Center, and the Time Warner Center, whose exterior greenery and mirrorlike facades have long lured winged residents (and migrating visitors) to their deaths. However, some newer structures have started taking a softer stance. For example, the IAC headquarters’ horizontal, dotted white bands make the building detectable to beady eyes. Appeasement, or a brave step toward peace? Only time will tell. [NYT]
