The United States Doesn’t Have Any More 10,000-Pound Nuclear Bombs to Drop on People

The final B53 bomb in the United States’ nuclear arsenal will be dismantled today at a facility in Amarillo, Texas. B53s, which were retired from service in 1997, were the size of minivans and delivered a payload “600 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, at the end of World War II.” Don’t worry, though — the United States will still have about 1,550 nuclear warheads under the terms of the recent START treaty, plenty enough to repeatedly blow up everything and everyone you’ve ever known or loved.
