NYPD Officers Charged With Gun Trafficking

Five current New York Police Department officers in Brooklyn and three who are retired were arrested and charged this morning in a federal corruption case that includes smuggling handguns, rifles, and shotguns, along with cigarettes and slot machines for good measure. Four other people were also apprehended before sunrise by FBI agents and officials from the Internal Affairs Bureau, who have long been conducting an undercover investigation into the scheme. Charges include weapons trafficking, conspiracy, and the shipment, sale, or receipt of stolen goods. Other NYPD headaches at the moment include allegations of spying on Muslims, planting drugs, abusing protesters, violating civil rights, slapping puppies, and unfairly stopping and frisking men of color on the street. The latter police tactic, of course, is meant to rid the city of illegal guns.
