Tunisia’s First Free Election Was Well Attended

Nine months after the ousting of President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali, about 70 percent of Tunisia’s 4.4 million registered voters participated in their country’s first legitimate election. Ballots in each of the 33 districts included 40 to 80 choices, the most popular of which seem to have been candidates from the moderate Islamic party Ennahda. Winners will become part of a 217-seat assembly that will appoint a new government and rewrite the constitution. [AP]
