The Deficit-Reduction Committee Isn’t Working

As it turns out, getting a bipartisan group of congressional leaders to agree on a way to trim the federal deficit by $1.2 trillion is not an easy task. The supercommittee created as a result of all of the hand-wringing debt-ceiling talks this summer is ready to admit (two days in advance of Wednesday’s deadline) that they’ve failed to reach agreements on deficit-reduction methods and that the tug-of-war will continue to year’s end.
