Geoffrey Mutai, a 30-year-old Kenyan, won the men’s title in this year’s New York City Marathon, running the race in 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 43 seconds, breaking the race’s decade-long record time. (Mutai also shattered the Boston Marathon record a month ago.) Interestingly, today’s second- and third-place men’s finishes also bested the previous record. On the women’s side, Ethiopia’s Firehiwot Dado finished first with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 15 seconds. Though Dado didn’t break the record — she was off by less than a minute — there was another record set today: the most people ever to take part in a New York City Marathon, 47,100.
