NYPD Officers Get Locked Out of Their Own Squad Car

How many NYPD officers does it take to open a patrol car that’s locked with the keys inside? Three, apparently, plus a metal rod and some encouragement. A video surfaced today of three officers who were locked out of their car on 84th Street between Second and First Avenues. Gothamist noted that the men declined to seek assistance from seven nearby locksmiths, probably figuring, “Hey, we’re cops!”

Seeing the YouTube potential of the fifteen-minute ordeal, a bystander or friend of the cameraman said, “You’ve gotta take a picture of this.” The cameraman took a video instead. Schadenfreude at its finest.
