The NYPD’s anti-subway-theft operation, using an increased number of decoy officers to bait thieves, netted a repeat offender on Saturday on the Times Square Shuttle platform. According to NBC New York, “A decoy officer walked from the N/Q/R platform to the shuttle mezzanine with a backpack containing an Apple iPhone.” That’s when a backup officer, retiring Det. Nelson Dones, saw the crook grab the iPhone from the backpack, and arrested him. “This is a fitting culmination of an outstanding career,” said Commissioner Ray Kelly. Now Dones can kick back and play Angry Birds on his own device.
