Power Is Pricier in NYC, Too

Con Ed bills went up an average of 9.6 percent, or about $7 per month, locally last year, compared to a national average increase of just .26 percent. That makes residential electricity rates higher here than everywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii, Alaska, a few New England islands, and the California ski resort Bear Valley, where at least the hotel handles the paperwork.
