Facebook will open a major new engineering office in New York City, a move the company announced in a high-profile press conference with Mayor Bloomberg and Senator Chuck Schumer this afternoon. It’s an important milestone in the city’s effort to cultivate the burgeoning high-tech sector here, and it will be Facebook’s first engineering outpost on this coast.
