John Heilemann visited the Morning Joe crew this morning to discuss new polls showing Newt Gingrich surging in primary states, and even slightly ahead of President Obama in some swing states. Although Gingrich’s poll numbers look good right now, Heilemann said fellow Republicans should be concerned. If Gingrich wins the nomination, his name on the ballot could actually hurt moderate Republican candidates for House and Senate in not-so-deep red states. “You’d be doomed,” Heilemann said. “He’d be a ten-point anvil around your neck.”
