Vaclav Havel, Fomer Czech President and Playwright, Dies at 75

The Czech playwright who led the 1989 Velvet Revolution to topple that country’s communist regime — which Havel branded Absurdistan — passed away today. Along with Poland’s Lech Walesa, he was a key figure in the string of revolutions that democratized Eastern Europe and sped along the collapse of the Soviet Union.
