Our own John Heilemann joined Alex Wagner’s panel today to discuss why Rick Perry has chosen, after much a day of “reassessment,” to continue campaigning despite a fifth-place finish at Tuesday’s Iowa Caucuses, and how Perry is apparently willing to run? or swim? or powerwalk? all the way to South Carolina. Deadpan, Wagner asks the group: “Why is he still in this race?” “I think there’s a lot of chatter in the political world today about the possibility of a deal with the Romney campaign to keep him in,” Heilemann said. “At this moment, Perry taking 10 percent of the vote in South Carolina is good for Mitt Romney.”
