New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan will become a cardinal tomorrow in a Vatican ceremony led by Pope Benedict, but he still has not managed to convince his Catholic brethren that our fine city isn’t some cesspool of slutty Glee lovers. “New York seems to have an innate interest and respect for religion and I’m going to bring that up because I don’t like that caricature that New York is some neo-Sodom and Gomorrah,” he told reporters in Rome. While Dolan admitted there’s some “graphic secularism” in town, he said “it is also a very religious city.” And even us non-believers will put up with some piety if you’re winning basketball games.
