Kim Dotcom, Once a Flight Risk, Is Now Free on Bail

Upon his arrest at the beginning of the year, Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom was denied bail and dubbed an “extreme flight risk” after being scooped up by the FBI from his mansion’s panic room, with a loaded shotgun and 25 credit cards nearby. Dotcom’s appeal was rejected as well, with prosecutors citing his three identities and passports for each, plus a history of fleeing criminal charges. But at a hearing today, a New Zealand judge went the other way, granting Dotcom bail while he awaits potential extradition to the U.S. to face charges of copyright infringement, racketeering, money laundering, and more. The only thing this already absurd and cinematic story needs is a good escape and international manhunt.
