Rubio Endorses Romney for GOP Nomination

I am going to endorse Mitt Romney,” freshman senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) said on Fox News, after Sean Hannity set him up for the statement. “Not only is he going to be the Republican nominee, but he offers a stark contrast to this president’s record.”

Rubio must not be referring to their health-care ideas. He believes that the GOP has had a very good primary race and that Romney has earned the nomination.

There is no way that anyone can convince me that having a floor fight at the convention in Tampa in August is a recipe for victory in November,” Rubio goes on. “On the contrary. I think it’s a recipe for disaster.”

There has been much speculation that Romney might choose Rubio as vice-presidential running mate. New York’s Jonathan Chait wrote yesterday, “Marco Rubio seems to have been invented in a laboratory as part of an experiment to create the perfect Republican vice-presidential candidate.”

But Rubio is playing it coy at this point.

I don’t believe I’m going to be asked to be the vice-presidential nominee,” he says. “That’s not what I intend to be, that’s not what I want to be, and that’s not what’s going to happen.”
