Four officers were injured during a Saturday night shoot-out with a single gunman in Sheepshead Bay. The cops were responding to a 911 call made by a group of movers who had gotten into an argument with 33-year-old Nakwon Foxworth. By the time they arrived, the suspect (currently hospitalized in critical condition) was holding his girlfriend and their 4-year-old son hostage in his apartment, though the two managed to escape before he began firing at the police with what turned out to be an illegal semi-automatic handgun. Michael Bloomberg used the incident (along with another shooting that took place in Red Hook) as an opportunity to highlight his recent campaign for stricter gun laws, telling reporters, “We have now had eight – that’s correct, eight – members of the department shot in the last four months. All the shootings have a disgraceful fact in common: all were committed with illegal guns that came from out of state. And that is the case with nearly every shooting in our city.”
