Council Speaker Christine Quinn and City Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras have awarded $20,000 to Boreum Hill–based nonprofit Hollaback!, an organization dedicated to ending street harassment. Hollaback! offers an app that collects pictures and stories, mainly from women who’ve been harassed on the street, or flirted with very aggressively, depending on who you ask. With the funds, Hollaback! will look to expand the app by allowing users to report unwanted advances to the city. But 25-year-old Bushwick bartender Steven Cruz lamented about the city’s involvement, “If you want to talk to a girl. Why can’t you talk to a girl? Let’s say you are a single looking for a woman?” Fortunately there’s another app for that, called the “Hot Babe Detector.”
